The Carefree Movers and Shakers…

‘Sometimes, the people we have known for a short amount of time have the biggest impact on our lives, even more than those we’ve known forever.’

Perfectly stated by the quote above, I have found the most inspiration in those I haven’t known for a particularly long time or even that well. From the environmental vegan activist to the multicultural blogger to the migration agent that helps those less fortunate to the aspiring schoolteacher to the fellow yogi that professes her love for her partner and dog with such passion…I am truly blessed to have met the most inspiring, influential people in such a short amount of time. They motivate me to be a better person every single day. They inspire me to write about what’s in my heart, love the planet and all its animals, share my feelings without apology, learn new things and express kindness at every opportunity that presents itself. To these unnamed people…I thank you.

These people never apologise for who they are and nor should they! They are beautiful, confident, carefree movers and shakers. Sometimes, when we meet such awe-inspiring individuals, we feel intimidated by who they are and how they express themselves. My intimidation is always incredibly short-lived. These wonderful humans only inspire and motivate me to be the best I can be. The impact they’ve had on my life has been tremendously significant and I hope that I have the same effect on somebody, someday if I haven’t already…

Think about the people that have come and gone in your own life. Maybe they are still there. Maybe you met them at an event and never saw them again after that day. Maybe they said something that spoke to you. Maybe they expressed themselves in such a way that you couldn’t help but admire their confidence. Maybe it was somebody that passed you on the street. Whoever these people are…the imprint they leave on our hearts and minds is almost always empowering.

You will know them when you meet them. They are unwavering in their love and passions. They never downplay who they are. They speak with conviction even when they know the majority will disagree. They have a twinkle in their eye and believe in the magic that surrounds them. They search for the deeper meaning in life.

I endeavour to be a woman of impact just like my fellow earth goddesses.

We have been socially conditioned to remain humble and not brag for fear of looking ‘up ourselves.’ I honestly believe stating your strengths, saying what you’re good at and professing self-love is anything but boasting…it’s beautiful, natural and should be encouraged.

Positive feelings and emotions should never be moderated…if anything, there should be more of it! If you’re in love, don’t be afraid to shout it from the rooftops. If you’re given a compliment, own it with pride. If you’re passionate about something, let it show.

The inspiring people I’ve met along the way do all these things and more:

When they do something well, they acknowledge it with a proud look on their faces.

When the rest of the world is still waking up, they yell ‘Good Morning’ ready to greet the day.

When they’ve had a hard day, they express anger in a healthy way and then let it go.

These special individuals literally stop to smell the roses and proceed to tell me in great detail what they discovered on their walks through nature.

They are the types to ask you what you love about your partner rather than what you fight about.

They would never use the term ‘skinny bitch’…rather they would recognise the insecurities within and use a healthy looking woman as inspiration to become healthier themselves.

Their hearts are pure and their intentions are filled with goodness.

They attract the best things in life because that’s exactly what they send out into the universe.

They do not compete, compare or gossip. They are creatures that absolutely love being themselves and don’t want to be anything but.

They don’t try to speed up time…their hearts and minds are in the present and they live for the day.

They are by no means perfect and never claim to be. Every single day is a self-reflection and an opportunity to grow without reaching an unattainable end result.

I cherish these people. Their optimism is infectious! I look forward to meeting more of them and as I come into my own, I find I am attracting an abundance of these special individuals. This post really is a shout out to the incredible people that have changed my life just by being them and leading by example.

What type of people inspire you? Do you recognise these traits in other people and yourself? I welcome all comments and feedback.

  1. That is quite a few inspiring people you have met and haven’t known long 😉 The universe is funny – what’s meant to be, is meant to be. Often when people walk into our lives we realise how different they are…and at the same time we are similar in many ways. At the end of the day, we all want to be happy and I guess we all have that bit of common ground whether we realise it or not.

“when we meet such awe-inspiring individuals, we feel intimidated by who they are and how they express themselves”. Might be a hint of jealously or self-doubt there, but if we work hard to go far then we will learn what humility is.

You use the word “skinny b*tch” at an interesting time for me…which you will know in a couple of days 🙂 Where there is confidence and positivity, we have experienced sadness and negativity, and I think some of us smile and come across confident not because we have it all or achieved “success”, but because we are thankful for what we have now compared to then 🙂

I am very glad to have met you, Rebecca. You are a great writer and props to you for doing yoga and going after what means the most to you. I wish I can be like that <3

    1. Hi Mabel 🙂 thank you for the feedback! When I wrote this post I was thinking of 5 specific individuals that I have met in the last year and you are definitely one of the 5 so I hope you recognised yourself and some of those traits in my post 🙂 🙂 it’s true that we come from all different walks of life but essentially we all want happiness and peace and to connect with others. I personally am more inspired than intimated by others when I meet them. I’m not a jealous person but I have been on the receiving end of jealousy and am understanding where it comes from in other people. As a skinny person like yourself, I really don’t like that term as it implies there is something wrong with exercising and eating healthy. These are good ways to live and if somebody is not so skinny, they should not place their insecurities on somebody who has worked hard for a nicer, healthier figure. I look forward to reading you post to see how you related to that particular part 🙂 everybody has insecurities but I think the people that understand that that is their own issues and don’t project them onto other people are the ones that have self-awareness and are wise. I am certainly thankful for my self-awareness and to know people like yourself that also have such high self awareness and an integrity. I’m super glad to have met you as well Mabel 🙂 you’ve inspired me to write about things from the heart and look at the world in a different way. Much love and happiness to you <3

      1. I really enjoyed reading such a positive post, and I think it’s partly because I’m a pessimist – always critiquing what I see and knowing to be careful of downfalls. That’s something I can learn from you, being an optimist.

For me, writing things from the heart is a scary thing. You essentially put yourself out there for people to judge and it’s sort of a “first impression” of you for them. Then again, if we don’t share what we know, don’t think much will come out of that.

I am very flattered and humbled to know such an encouraging and motivated writer who has published a book. Wishing you the best <3

      2. I really love your honesty Mabel 🙂 it’s so refreshing! If you don’t mind me mentioning the zodiac for a minute, I would like to reflect on the fact that you are a Taurus which means your element is Earth. It is natural for an Earth sign to be a bit more ‘pessimistic’ as you say but I actually see Earth signs as not negative but realistic. They are logical, practical and see things as they really are. I appreciate you wanting to learn more optimism. I think you should always have a balance 🙂 I’m a little bit too up in the clouds sometimes but my partner who is a Capricorn and an Earth sign helps ground me and bring me back to reality which is very helpful and necessary when you are an adult! I like that balance of playful and sensible 🙂 writing is one of the bravest things you can do…you bare your soul and people are essentially reading the inner workings of your mind. That is why I admire you so much. You are such a brave writer and you ask people to question things and be curious. It’s wonderful Mabel! I wish you all the best in your writing too and I like knowing there is somebody who truly understands how powerful writing can be xx

      3. I love it when you talk about the zodiac actually. I’ve always believed there are planetarium (I’m not sure if that’s the correct word, forgive me…) forces at work around us, so star signs are fascinating to me. Understanding our signs, we reflect on ourselves and how we react to the world around us and we in turn see the stories unfolding among us and those around us.

With optimism and positivity comes dreaming, comes hope. Anything is possible. Dreamer versus realist, I think we complement each other very well 😉 Thank you for the kind words. Good luck with your next book – you inspire me so much right there <3
