For the entire month, I took part in the October Yoga Challenge sponsored by @aloyoga on Instagram. I’ve been wanting to do a challenge like this for so long but didn’t feel ready until now. I used to be a perfectionist who wasn’t happy when I came up against postures I couldn’t do so I didn’t even bother but what I realised through my teacher training is that yoga isn’t about perfection. It’s about practice and persistence. You will see in this challenge that I couldn’t do everything but that’s okay because the journey is the most important part. It’s about making peace with the process and your anatomical limitations. Some days were difficult and definitely challenging but overall I loved this challenge and noticed a big difference in my flexibility and strength by the end. I’ve certainly come a long way in my practice and I particularly enjoyed observing how different the results were every time I stepped onto my mat. I’ve noted down my tips for each pose plus my feelings towards them so I hope you enjoy
Here is my challenge day by day:
And so the challenge is complete! Thank you so much for reading! I really want to stress that anybody can do these challenges no matter where you’re at in your yoga journey. As you can see, I couldn’t do all of the poses but I enjoyed showing my progress anyway and discussing which poses I find difficult and which come easily to me. We all have different bodies and anatomical makeup. We need to embrace it and practice yoga anyway with love and acceptance. The next time you see a monthly yoga challenge on social media, give it a go! You will learn so much about your body & yourself…
I do basic yoga for back and legs. Your artwork and photos gave me some new ideas. Thank you.

I’m glad to have provided you with some ideas 🙂 I certainly hadn’t done all of these poses before either so it was a lot of fun!

I can’t do them all. Army mess up legs and back up. I don’t like using medicine. Better to do easy yoga to fix the pain.

That’s no good – luckily with all yoga poses there are modifications you can do for injury or anatomical limitations. Yoga is the most natural remedy along with meditation 🙂

Love it! I want to take up this challenge. Love your outfits, too!
Thank you so much! If you follow aloyoga on Instagram they release monthly challenges 🙂 also the majority of my yoga leggings come from Anas Leggings so check them out if you want cheap comfy pattern yoga pants! X
So many wonderful poses and such informative descriptions of them. I really like the “Day Twenty Five: Anjaneyasana” one. It looks so uplifting, like you are believing in yourself that you can do it, and that if you keep looking up and being positive, you will achieve what you want to achieve. So proud of you for keeping this up for a month, what an achievement. I have to agree in the second last photo you like you are concentrating very hard 😀 Hope you are doing well and catch up soon 🙂
Thank you Mabel! Patient Francis took my photo every day which was nice of him 🙂 I love that one too, it’s such a nice posture to practice. I really enjoyed the challenge :)! X
