My Blind Date With A Book!

Don’t judge a book by its cover…

Hi all!

Today I wish to discuss a really cool bookish concept I recently discovered. Picture an online dating service where you input your romantic preferences and search for a partner that ticks the majority of your boxes. When you finally meet in person, you either connect or realise this match isn’t overly suited to you. Now imagine doing all of that…but with a book.

Blind Date With A Book  allows you to submit your personal reading preferences on their website (you can be as detailed as possible) and Elizabeth’s Bookshop in Australia will pick and wrap a book according to your desires. If you cannot decide, the link above provides plenty of examples. If you do not live in Australia, the company ship overseas with a cost otherwise if you live in the area, you’re welcome to pick it up from the store without a shipping charge. When you receive your mystery book date, it will look like this:

The key-words I submitted were: Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction & Love Story. I absolutely loved the packaging and was incredibly intrigued to see what Elizabeth’s had picked for me that related to my specific interests. When I opened the box, I saw the key-words: Small Towns, Small Minds, Hidden Talents, Humour, Intrigue & Fantasy.

For a moment, I thought they hadn’t taken my original key-words into consideration until I opened my package and saw that the book fit my preferences perfectly!

The book I received was…

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Book 1 of the Sookie Stackhouse (Southern Vampire) Series

Confession! I have never read a Charlaine Harris novel nor watched a single episode of the HBO series True Blood. Maybe it is a sign from the universe telling me to finally give them a go! I’m really intrigued to delve into this series now and see what I think.

The synopsis of the first book revolves around introverted cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse who lives in Louisiana. The reason for her reserved nature is due to her ability to read minds. One day, a handsome man named Bill comes along and she is delighted to discover that his mind is unreadable. Bill however, is a vampire and his posse are renowned for their dark, murderous ways. When one of Sookie’s colleagues is killed, she becomes paranoid that her own mortality is about to run out…

Despite the T.V show True Blood now being over, I may begin watching it. Better late than never!

I’m so happy with this ‘pick’ and will definitely go on a second date with my new book 🙂 Thank you Elizabeth’s for providing me with an excellent choice and adhering to my preferences. If you are interested in this concept, please click the link above and order yourself a mystery blind book-date! You can even gift these to loved ones that would like to read something new but don’t enjoy making decisions.

Please let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever read this series or enjoyed the show. Would you try ‘Blind Date with a Book?’

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. This is such an interesting concept! Glad you like your book and the horror and supernatural theme within it suits your personality 😊 A good match. I would love to try it if time permits. I’m very selective with books too and if I don’t like it, it leaves me with a bad feeling. Hope you are well my friend 😊💙
