April 2nd-Who Is My Favourite Disney Princess?

Hi all!

Welcome to Day 2 of my 30 Day Disney Blogging Challenge! I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am so far. Today’s question is: who is my favourite Disney Princess? This one was a no-brainer for me. My favourite princess has always remained the same and will never change. There are so many reasons she is my favourite for which I’ll explain below. She is the ever intelligent, ever beautiful, ever kind:

BELLE!

I love Belle because in my personal perspective, she has been the most relatable. From the very beginning of Beauty and the Beast, she is described as ‘odd’, ‘peculiar’ and ‘funny’ in the song ‘Little Town.’ She’s regarded as strange due to her introverted nature and love of books. Belle is happiest when she’s lost in a story of make-believe and finds joy in re-reading the same novels over and over. At a young age, I too kept to myself, always reading and feeling right at home in a bookstore or library.

Belle is very family-oriented and loyal towards her father who is also seen as a mentally unstable person by the villagers. It is a sign of true love that Belle sacrifices her freedom in exchange for her father’s when she takes his place in the Beast’s castle. She stands her ground and refuses to bend to the Beast’s will despite initially feeling so unhappy and trapped. After he rescues her from a pack of hungry wolves, the pair begin to slowly bond. Belle sees the beauty in the Beast and falls in love with the man within. She sees the good in everybody and desires real love over superficial relationships like the one she would’ve had, had she preferred Gaston. Her heart guides her decisions and this is evident when she returns to the castle to save the Beast from harm. It does not matter how many times I’ve seen this movie, when Belle says ‘I Love You’ to the dying Beast, I always cry. You can feel the passion and intensity in those three words. They are so powerful…enough to break the curse.

Let’s not forget the best scene in the entire movie. When the Beast wishes to surprise Belle, he takes her to his majestic, enormous library and offers it to her as a gift. Her face is priceless. You can see her glowing with delight and as a fellow bibliophile, I cannot help feeling envious of her in that moment. Who wouldn’t love a library that grand to call their own? It doesn’t take much to make Belle happy. She is so incredibly humble and kind.

Last month, I saw the live-action film of Beauty and the Beast and to say I adored it, was an understatement. Emma Watson played Belle so beautifully and she gave me just as much emotion as the original Belle in the cartoon movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do!

Here are some fun facts about Belle:

  • All of her movements are based on that of a ballerina’s.
  • In the cartoon, she is 17 years old and her name means beautiful in French
  • As I mentioned earlier, the scene where Belle says ‘I Love You’ to the dying Beast was actually sobbed through real tears by voice actress Paige O’Hara hence why it’s such a powerfully, gripping scene.
  • Belle was the first Disney brunette heroine and the only person to wear blue in the town to prove how different she was from the rest.

Honourable Mention

Ariel from The Little Mermaid

I hope you enjoyed Day 2! Who is your favourite Disney Princess and why? I would love to know your thoughts.

See you tomorrow!

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. So nice to read about your favourite Disney Princess! I really, really, really like Belle too for all the reasons you describe here. My favourite Disney Princess would have to be Mulan, partly because I can relate to her background and we are similar in terms of that, but also because she is a fighter and she has the mentality that girls can do anything. When I watched the movie, it really stuck with me how she disguised herself as a male soldier to help in the army invasion.

I also love Ariel, and Jasmine from Aladdin too. I was about six years old and bought a Happy Meal in Australia and it came with a Jasmine doll if I’m not mistaken. The doll was very happy with my other stuffed toys. Then my parents decided to move the family to Malaysia and they made me pick between my toys, and unfortunately Jasmine didn’t make it 🙁 But I am so glad to have my Rafiki after all these years (no, he is not a Princess but he likes his importance) 😀

    1. Thank you my friend! I really love Mulan too! Apparently the live action movie is going to come out either this year or the next! Ariel is my second favourite because I love her voice and the fact that she is a mermaid. Aww I’m sorry you couldn’t bring your Jasmine toy 🙁 I’m so glad you still have Rafiki, he is the best! Xx

      1. Now that you have brought up the theme of Disney, I think I will be looking at Rafiki plushes for the whole month 🙁 😀
