April 10th-Which Is My Favourite Disney (Animal) Couple?

Hi all!

Today I will be discussing my favourite Disney Animal Couple!

I typically don’t like to go with the obvious choices so in this post, I’m going to reflect on an underrated love between two beautiful foxes. I will explain down below why I think their relationship is so special and how much I adore them together. I ship:

ROBIN HOOD AND MAID MARIAN!

First of all, Maid Marian and Robin Hood have known one another since they were children and fell deeper in love as they became adults. I love this aspect of their story. They have literally grown together both in age and in feelings. Before the events of the film take place, Maid Marian left for London and had only recently returned to Nottingham after spending years apart. It supports the saying that if you love someone, let them go and if they return you, it was meant to be.

Maid Marian expresses her concerns to her lady in waiting, Lady Kluck that she is worried Robin will no longer return her feelings after all this time and that he will have forgotten about her. Lady Kluck assures her that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Robin Hood, who is notorious for stealing from the rich to give to the poor, enters Prince John’s archery tournament in disguise, knowing that the winner will receive a kiss from Maid Marian. He certainly hasn’t forgotten about her. Marian sees right through the costume and is beyond delighted. When his identity is revealed, he is sentenced to death. Marian pleads for his life with tears rolling down her cheeks and publicly announces that she loves him. When Prince John asks Robin if he feels the same, he replies: “Marian, I love you more than life itself.” This is usually the part where I start sobbing!

As he makes his escape, he grabs Maid Marian and amidst the battle, proposes to her. She accepts but playfully teases him about the unromantic setting. They also joke about where they wish to honeymoon and how many children they want to have. It is evident that they are so well-suited by the way they communicate, laugh and share the same sense of adventure.

That evening, as Robin’s posse celebrate, he takes Marian for a moonlight walk to Little John’s hideout by a waterfall. As they stop by the water, he presents her with a flower engagement ring. They stare into each other’s eyes full of love and adoration. You really can’t hold a candle to their devotion.

When they return to the camp, all of the townspeople are hiding to surprise and congratulate them on their engagement. They dance and sing until the wee hours of the morning.

Once Prince John is defeated, King Richard blesses their union and Robin Hood marries the love of his life. The closing scene sees them leaving for their honeymoon. I really love how time does not change their affections. They only have eyes for each other and fight with courage to be together. I highly recommend watching Robin Hood again and noticing just how strong their relationship is. It knows no bounds…

  1. Robin Hood has got to be one of my favourite movies as it’s like your classic fairytale 😊 My favourite animal couple would be Simba and Kiara – love that lasts the distance and time 😊
