April 24th-Which Disney Happily Ever After Is My Favourite?

Hi all!

Welcome to Day 24 of the 30 Day Disney Challenge! I cannot believe we are on the final week. I’ve honestly had the best time living and breathing Disney all month.

Today I am discussing my favourite Disney ending. The one thing you can always count on with a Disney movie is that there will be a happily ever after. I will explain below why this final scene is so perfect although I believe it is pretty self-explanatory. It will hit you right in the feels and fill you with joy. It is when…

PINOCCHIO BECOMES A REAL BOY!

Firstly, I would just like to take a moment to truly appreciate the character of Geppetto. I believe he is very underrated in the Disney realm. Geppetto is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest man who truly deserves the ending he gets. In the beginning, we see him in his workshop, creating the puppet Pinocchio with love. Before going to bed, he wishes on a star for Pinocchio to be real as he has always wanted a child. In the middle of the night, the Blue Fairy grants his wish but with a catch. Pinocchio is alive as a puppet but not as a human. In order for him to become a real boy, he must prove himself to be unselfish, brave, truthful and kind. Jiminy Cricket is tasked with being the puppet’s conscience so he can teach him right from wrong.

Geppetto is woken by the events of the song Give A Little Whistle and discovers his wish has come true. At first he thinks he’s dreaming but after pouring a jug of water on his head, he is overjoyed to realise that Pinocchio can indeed walk and talk. They dance together in the workshop.

I’m not going to go into the full plot but Pinocchio struggles throughout the film to be honest and unselfish. He gives into temptation a lot of the time and winds up in dangerous situations. Firstly, he ditches school to follow unsavory characters Honest John and Gideon which leads him to being sold into Stromboli the Puppet Master’s show. He is forced to perform and earn money as the world’s first singing and acting puppet. He tries to leave but Stromboli traps him in a cage. Meanwhile, Geppetto is worried sick about his boy that never came home from school. He leaves to look for him. It’s here that we learn whenever Pinocchio tells a lie, his nose will grow longer.

Secondly, Pinocchio escapes with the help of the Blue Fairy but once again is tricked by Honest John and Gideon. He winds up on Pleasure Island which is anything but what it sounds like. This leads to an incredibly disturbing scene. Naughty boys are captured and taken to this island where they can smoke, drink and gamble. However, after a while, the island turns them into donkeys and uses them for slave labour. Pinocchio manages to escape off the island before his transformation is complete but not without sprouting ears and a tail first. He and Jiminy race home only to find out from the Blue Fairy that Geppetto has been swallowed up by Monstro the Whale whilst searching for his son at sea.

Pinocchio sets out to save his father. He ties a rock to his donkey tail which allows him to sink to the bottom. Here he is swallowed by Monstro and discovers Geppetto in the belly of the beast. His father is overjoyed to see him but laments that he cannot escape. Pinocchio stars a fire with driftwood causing Monstro to sneeze the boat out. Pinocchio pulls his father to safety but dies in the attempt.

At home, Geppetto sobs on the edge of the bed over Pinocchio’s body. The Blue Fairy’s voice is heard declaring that Pinocchio’s rescue deems him worthy of selflessness and bravery. He is transformed into a real boy. He and Geppetto embrace and we get our happily ever after. Many tears are shed.

I love this ending because as I mentioned earlier, Geppetto is a wonderful man who is content with the simple things in life. It’s so satisfying to see him get all that his heart desires and of course I’m happy for Pinocchio too!

  1. I love Pinocchio and love that he has a happy ending at the end! Mine would be the last few scenes from Beauty and the Beast. It’s a story that tells us a lesson that looks don’t matter, and no matter how we look and what we achieve, that doesn’t matter. If we get along and respect each other, that is all that matters. So happy for Belle and Beast at the end 🙂
