The Reading Quest Wrap-Up!

Welcome to my Reading Quest Wrap-Up! If you aren’t sure what the Reading Quest is, please click here for more information. This Readathon ran from August 13th to September 10th and in that time, I read a total of 6 books! I had so much fun devouring some incredible novels and earning lots of points.

Let’s look at how I tackled my TBR for The Reading Quest. Feel free to check out my initial post with the list of books I had planned to read for the challenge here.

THE BARD QUESTS:

– On August 13th, I began listening to Scarlet by Marissa Meyer on audio-book and finished it on August 23rd. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Cinder but it was still a really fun and exciting story. I gave it 4/5 stars. This completed the: Read a Fairy-Tale Retelling Quest.

– On August 13th (Day 1) I started and finished The Little Prince by Antoine De-Saint Exupery. It was such a quick and beautiful read with plenty of adorable images to accompany the story. I loved the themes of childlike innocence and how this is lost as we grow into adults. Did anybody else just want to pick up the Prince and cuddle him? I gave it 5/5 stars. This completed the: Read a Translated Book Quest. 

– On August 14th, I started reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli and finished it on August 16th. I flew through this book in just 3 days! It was so much fun and a very easy read. I am really excited to see the film adaptation in 2018. It was at this point, I realised I was making really good progress on the Readathon. I gave it 5/5 stars. This completed the: Read a Book Being Turned into a Movie Quest.

– On August 17th, I started Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley and finished it on August 21st. I thought the ending was incredible and I enjoyed the overall story but I didn’t really connect with any of the characters nor did it blow me away. I gave it a 4/5 stars. This completed the: Read a Book with Striking Typography Quest.

– On August 22nd, I started An Abundance of Katherines by John Green and finished it on August 30th. This book put me into a bit of a reading slump which meant it took me longer to complete. I wish I had loved it but sadly it wasn’t that great. I think the main issue I had with it was the setting. I was expecting more of a road-trip adventure but the main characters literally settle into the first one-horse town they find and stay there. It is definitely my least favourite John Green book. Having said that, I still enjoyed the humour and the footnotes/diagrams gave a nice touch. I gave it a 3/5 stars. This completed the: Read A Banned Book Quest.

THE SIDE QUEST:

– On August 31st, I started Demon Apocalypse by Darren Shan (Book #6 of the Demonata Series) and finished it on September 2nd. As with every single Darren Shan/Demonata book so far, I loved it. It was full of twists, turns and hellish demons! This completed the: Open World Quest – Read Whatever You Want.

On my original TBR, I was hoping to read Fairest by Marissa Meyer in order to complete the Expansion Quest – Read a Companion Novel or Short Story but I never got the chance to even start it.

MY FINAL SCORE: 

All characters start off at Level 1 with 10 EXP to their name and evolve after every 50 EXP (Experience Points) earned. I read a total of 6 books (10 EXP each) earning me 60 points which took me to Level 2. Because I also completed the entire Bard Quest, I was awarded an additional 50 EXP which took me to Level 3. In total I collected 120 EXP. I also started with 10 HP (Health Points). 1 HP is awarded for every ten pages read and for every 20 minutes listened to on audio-book. I scored a total of 140 HP.

I certainly didn’t win any prizes or get close to the top of the leader-board but I had so much fun and that was the real point of The Reading Quest. Once again, I want to thank Read At Midnight for creating this unique and fun Readathon. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I hope it becomes a yearly event. I also want to thank Read,Think,Ponder for the beautiful artwork/designs (see picture above). My favourite read was Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.
