Obsidio Book Launch & Unboxing!

Hi all!

Today I am going to be sharing with you my experience at the Obsidio Book Launch that took place in Melbourne March 9th, plus all of the goodies I received in the Obsidio Box provided by The YA Chronicles. Ever since I read Illuminae and Gemina in 2017, I had been highly anticipating the release of the final book in the trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. THE BOOK LAUNCH!

The Book Launch took place at the beautiful State Library in Melbourne, VIC. I am so happy I booked my ticket immediately as apparently the waitlist was insanely long. I emailed the administrators ahead of time to let them know I was 6 months pregnant and had difficulty standing for long periods of time. They kindly let me stand close to the front of the signing line.

The panel was hosted by the lovely ladies at The YA Room. Click the title to check out their amazing blog. Amie and Jay took a collective photo of all the guests, answered questions about The Illuminae Files and provided insight into their upcoming new releases.

I’ve met Amie and Jay a couple of times before. They are very genuine, humble and kind. They signed my copy of Gemina and Obsidio (see below) and took a photo with me. It makes me so proud that they are from Melbourne. I love supporting authors from my hometown.

THE UNBOXING!

Now let’s get onto the unboxing! I emailed the YA Chronicles in February asking them to send me just the goodies, not the actual book, because I wanted to buy that at the launch and get it signed. They were super helpful and happily refunded me a portion of the total price. A week after the launch, I recieved this fantastic box full of unique products. Here is what was inside:

 1.) CUSTOM GALAXY BOOKSLEEVE CREATED BY ‘BETWEEN THE PAGES’

How beautiful is this book sleeve? I am obsessed with the galaxy print! I only own one other book sleeve – see October Favourites 2017! – and they are both size large making them perfect fits for a big sci-fi tome like Obsidio. I am excited to mix them up. 2.) </ERROR> SOY WAX CANDLE CREATED BY ‘THE BOOK HANGOVER STORE’

I have never seen such a cool candle. It has such an outer-space look with the silver wax and glitter. Better still, it is 100% soy-based, vegan and cruelty-free. The tin promises a scent of vanilla, black pepper, tobacco and patchouli. It smells divine. I cannot wait to light it. You can check out the store here for more bookish inspired candles. By the way, if you were wondering, </ERROR> is uttered multiple times by the AI, AIDAN in The Illuminae Files.

3.) CUSTOM SPACE BRACELET CREATED BY ‘CHARMED FICTION’ ON ETSY

This silver bangle was custom-made by a store on Etsy called ‘Charmed Fiction.’ I really love the rocket charm and galaxy pendant. It is a touch big on my wrist but I like the way it dangles. It has such a unique design.

4.) ‘DEATH BLOOMS’ PAPER FLOWER CREATED BY ‘A LITTLE TOUCH OF BOOKS’

This next item is really special. It is a paper flower made from the pages of Illuminae, Gemina and Obsidio. The content card says it is splattered in the ‘blood’ of the main character’s enemies. There is a quote from the series on the box that reads: ‘and like roses in his hands, death blooms.’ This item is also exclusive to The YA Chronicles but you can check out the store who designed it here.

5.) THE ILLUMINAE FILES TAROT CARD SET CREATED BY @MEGANJEONGBOOKS ON INSTAGRAM

This is by far my favourite item in the box. It is a tarot card set designed by the talented MeganJeongBooks on Instagram. She has a great Etsy store linked in her bio. From top to bottom, left to right, we have: The Monster – AIDAN, The Thinker – Kady Grant, The Flyer – Ezra Mason, The Healer – Asha Grant, The Fighter – Hanna Donnelly, The Joker – Nik Malikov and The Soldier – Rhys Lindstrom. Megan has done a beautiful job bringing my favourite characters to life. I will treasure these forever.

6.) OBSIDIO CONTENT CARD AND BOOKMARK CREATED BY THE YA CHRONICLES

And finally, we have the content card and bookmark created exclusively by The YA Chronicles. I love the Illuminae, Gemina and Obsidio colour scheme. The same artwork is also found on the back of the tarot cards. The quote reads: ‘first survive, then tell the truth.’

I am so impressed and happy with this box. I truly hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it.
