The Disney Read-A-Long – My TBR!

Hi all!

I am super excited to announce that I will be taking part in the Disney Read-A-Long next month! Disney and Reading = a winning combination that speaks to my soul. This event is being hosted by TinyBookDragon. Click her name for further information. Furthermore, you can follow the official Twitter page here. The readathon will commence at midnight (wherever you are in the world) on May 6th and end at midnight on May 12th. There are five reading challenges to complete and one specific Disney movie to watch, spanning an entire week. In this post, I am going to share with you my personal TBR, plus all of the challenges, so you have time to prepare and participate as well. Let’s do this!

CHALLENGE #1 – FROZEN: READ A BOOK THAT IS SET DURING WINTER

I pounced on this first challenge as a way to finally dive into the Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. I have not re-read the Harry Potter series for years, so I am very excited to revisit this magical world in such a unique and beautiful format. I am also going to try reading it out loud to my unborn daughter as practice for the future when she finally understands what’s going on. Harry’s first school year at Hogwarts commences in September, however this story does take place over the winter as well. Whenever I think of this book, my mind goes straight to Christmas and snow. Plus, the host approved my choice so that helps!

CHALLENGE #2 – DORY: READ A BOOK YOU FORGOT YOU OWNED

For this challenge, I am going to go with Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. I received this book in the special edition ‘Pride’ box curated by the YA Chronicles. I keep forgetting that I own it, plus it’s only around 260 pages. I have to read 5 books in 7 days so I’m trying to think strategically. From what I know, it follows a vlogger/actress who falls in love with an internet celebrity who appears as a surprise guest at the premiere of her first movie. I’m looking forward to reading it!

CHALLENGE #3 – AURORA’S DRESS: READ A BOOK WITH BLUE AND PINK ON THE COVER

It’s only fitting that for Aurora’s challenge, I read Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn (AKA Noodlerella). It has streaks of pink and blue on the cover and revolves around a princess. What more could you need? In this story, we follow a character named Lottie Pumpkin who attends Rosewood Hall on a scholarship. There she meets Ellie Wolf, the secret princess of Maradova, desperate to live a normal life. As fate would have it, the two end up being roommates which leads to them switching identities. This sounds like such an interesting and fun read.

CHALLENGE #4 – HUEY, DEWEY AND LOUIE: READ A BOOK THAT IS PART OF A TRILOGY

I won Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi in a giveaway on Twitter! It is the first book in The Orisha Legacy Trilogy. I have heard nothing but rave reviews surrounding this fantastical story. Set in West Africa, we follow Zelie, who is tasked with bringing magic back to her people and striking against the cruel monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zelie must learn to harness her powers and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. I just know this is going to be one of my favourite reads of 2018.

CHALLENGE #5 – CINDERELLA: READ THE ORIGINAL FAIRYTALE (BY THE BROTHERS GRIMM) AND WATCH THE DISNEY ANIMATED FILM

For the last challenge, we need to read Cinderella by the Brothers Grimm and watch the Disney Animated Film. I believe the fairytale itself is quite short. I found it on Overdrive, so I won’t be purchasing a physical or electronic copy. As for the movie, I actually just watched Cinderella so I don’t plan on doing so again. However, I will probably re-watch the live action version that came out in 2015 or one of the fun re-tellings like A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.

This is my highly ambitious TBR for the upcoming Disney Read-A-Long. I will be posting a follow-up blog to document how many books I actually ended up reading and about that week in general. If you wish to participate, let me know down below. It’s going to be so much fun! Best of luck to those taking part. Thank you for reading.

Peace & Love xoxo
