What My Vegan 9 Month Old Baby Eats In A Day!

Hi all!

Today I am going to be sharing with you what my 9 month old daughter eats in a day. A couple of quick disclaimers before we begin. Firstly: Abi is still being breastfed, so after every solid meal she has both sides offered to her, which contains the majority of  nutrition she needs up until she’s 1. I take a women’s multivitamin which is fortified with all the essential vitamins including B-12, Iodine and more. I also eat a well-balanced vegan diet so she also receives all of those nutrients secondhand from my milk. When Abigail is no longer breastfed, she will begin taking a daily children’s multivitamin just to be safe. Secondly: According to maternal child health nurses nowadays, around 9 months, a baby should be eating more mushy, lumpy food. According to my doctor however, babies progress at different rates and this is completely normal. Abigail is a little bit better with lumpy food but she still gags and vomits everything up if it’s slightly too chunky or textured. We have tried, but at this point it’s stressful for both of us, so we are letting her mature naturally. You will see that most of her food is pureed. Unfortunately, that’s just how it is at the moment. We also give her finger foods. Again, sometimes she’s okay, other times she vomits and cries. However, she is getting much better with lumpier foods. Okay with all of that out the way, let’s get into it!

BREAKFAST

Abigail typically has breakfast just after 7am. Every single morning, I give her two sachets of the iron-fortified cereal made by Rafferty’s GardenI cycle between the plain Organic Rice Cereal, the Multigrain Apricot and Banana Cereal and the organic Banana Porridge. She loves all of them. It’s a great way to start the day and ensure she gets an extra dose of iron. I’m a huge fan of Rafferty’s Garden. They make a lot of vegan-friendly baby foods.

LUNCH

Around 12pm, it’s time for lunch. Abi likes fruit, so I tend to give her a puree combo mix. She will eat any of them. On this particular day, I gave her Apple, Banana and Peach.

FINGER FOOD SNACK

The fruit puffs are the only finger food she will eat without vomiting. I think it is because they dissolve in her mouth easily. She really likes the Apple and Cinnamon flavour.

DINNER

For dinner around 5-5:30, I give Abi a combination of mashed vegetables. If I mash my own potato or pumpkin, she gags, so once again I need to resort to purees. There are so many great options. Sometimes I add bits of silken tofu for extra calcium, iron and protein. I also give her the organic vegetable macaroni with brown rice and vegetable congee. Can you spot the cute baby head?

I hope you enjoyed this post. I am going to continue making these as Abigail becomes a toddler, child and so on because I believe they are super helpful for parents that wish to raise their children vegan. I want to show others how safe, healthy and simple it can be. Please leave any comments/feedback down below.

Thank you for reading!

Peace & Love xoxo
