The Fortune Teller Readathon – My TBR!

Hi all!

Welcome to my first Readathon of 2020! As you may or may not know, I like to participate in different Readathons every year. In 2017, I took part in THE READING QUEST! In 2018, I participated in The Disney Read-A-Long – My TBR! In 2019, I completed The O.W.L.’S Magical Readathon – My TBR!The N.E.W.T.’S Magical Readathon – My TBR! and the The Gilmore Girls Readathon – My TBR!

This year, I am taking part in The Fortune Teller Readathon which goes from February 1st – February 29th. You can find more information on their Instagram page – @fortune_teller_readathon. I also plan to attempt the Bookemon Readathon (Pokemon themed) which runs for the entire month of May so stay tuned for that TBR.

The rules are very simple for this Readathon. Below is a pathway with three options. You are welcome to complete all of them, or just pick one. I am going to go with Pathway 2. If I happen to finish it with days to spare, I’ll start 3, but I doubt I’ll get that far. You just need to pick a book for each prompt and read it. Let’s get onto my TBR!

* Quick disclaimer – this TBR may change as I have a few books on hold at the library. If they suddenly become available in Feb, I will have to find a way to incorporate them into the prompts instead.

THE NEW FRIEND – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL BE A NEW FAVOURITE!

9780008172145

Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive – but not how to live. Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.
Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything.

I haven’t heard one bad review about this adult-fiction novel. I can just tell it’s going to be a new favourite! Order a copy here

WRITTEN IN THE STARS – READ A 4 OR 5 STAR PREDICTED READ!

9781250037756

The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon away from life as a San Francisco web-design drone and into the aisles of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after a few days on the job, Clay discovers that the store is more curious than either its name or its gnomic owner might suggest. The customers are few, and they never seem to buy anything–instead, they “check out” large, obscure volumes from strange corners of the store. Suspicious, Clay engineers an analysis of the clientele’s behavior, seeking help from his variously talented friends. But when they bring their findings to Mr. Penumbra, they discover the bookstore’s secrets extend far beyond its walls.

I definitely feel in my bones that this is going to be either a four or five star read! Order a copy here.

THE HOPELESS ROMANTIC – READ A LOVE STORY!

Aspiring filmmaker and wallflower, Twinkle has stories to tell – if only the world would listen. So when nerdy classmate and fellow film-obsessive Sahil approaches her to direct a film for the upcoming Summer Festival, Twinkle can’t wait. The chance to showcase her artistic voice? Dream come true. The opportunity to get closer to longtime crush, Neil – aka Sahil’s twin brother? Dream come even truer. When Twinkle receives an email from a secret admirer – the mysterious ‘N’ – she is sure it’s Neil, finally ready for their happy ending. The only problem is that, in the course of their movie-making, she has found herself falling for Sahil – the wrong brother.

So far I have really enjoyed all of Sandhya Menon’s books and it seems like this love story will be no exception! Order a copy here.

THE DARK ONE – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL HAVE A GREAT VILLAIN!

9781406379242

In a world where disease, war and crime have been eliminated, the only way to die is to be randomly killed (“gleaned”) by professional scythes. Citra and Rowan are teenagers who have been selected to be scythes’ apprentices, and despite wanting nothing to do with the vocation, they must learn the art of killing and understand the necessity of what they do. Only one of them will be chosen as a scythe’s apprentice and as Citra and Rowan come up against a terrifyingly corrupt Scythedom, it becomes clear that the winning apprentice’s first task will be to glean the loser.

If this doesn’t scream great villain, I don’t know what does! Order a copy here

THE OUTCAST – READ A BOOK YOU THINK YOU’LL LOVE BUT OTHERS HATE!

When Adam Blake lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he’s got it made. Sure, it means a lot of sitting around, which isn’t easy for a guy with ADHD, but he can’t complain, since he gets to spend the period texting all his friends. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian–the foster brother he hasn’t seen in five years. Adam is ecstatic to be reunited. At first, Julian seems like the boy he once knew. He’s still kind hearted. He still writes stories and loves picture books meant for little kids. But as they spend more time together, Adam realizes that Julian is keeping secrets, like where he hides during the middle of the day, and what’s really going on inside his house. Adam is determined to help him, but his involvement could cost both boys their lives.

I really want to read this book but I’m nervous because a lot of people say it’s quite problematic. Still, I want to make up my own mind. Order a copy here.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know if you plan on partaking or if you’ve read any of the books I mentioned and what you thought of them. Stay tuned for my wrap-up in March! Thanks for reading!

In case you were wondering, this is a puzzle I received when I was a teenager. I put it together and glued it onto a board. It now hangs above our television. I love it so much and felt it was a fitting feature image for this Readathon!

Peace & Love xoxo
