The Hamilton Book Tag!

Hi all!

Welcome to my first book tag of 2020! In late 2019, one of my best friends’ sent me the  Hamilton soundtrack. She is a huge fan and wanted me to jump on the bandwagon. After listening to it several times through, I did!. In case you were wondering, my favourite song is Aaron Burr, Sir. I love it! I believe the original tag creator was Maureen Keavy on YouTube, but I sourced the questions from Dreamland Book Blog. Click the title if you want to read their responses. Also, feel free to listen to the songs as you go through each question. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS – A BOOK WORLD YOU WOULD PUT YOURSELF IN

No one else was in the room where it happened.

I am going to go with the last book I read, which was Timekeeper by Tara SimThis steampunk trilogy is set in an alternate Victorian England where time is controlled by clocktowers. I’m a tad obsessed with clocktowers and time travel, so this world sounds like a perfect place for me.

THE SCHYLER SISTERS – AN UNDERRATED FEMALE CHARACTER

Work, work! Angelica! Work, work! Eliza! And Peggy! The Schuyler sisters!

I have to say Circe from Circe by Madeleine MillerI finished that book last month and it blew me away. Despite enduring so much heartache, turmoil and emotional trauma, Circe still manages to be a kind, loving person to those around her. This book is quite popular, but I haven’t heard many reviewers comment on how remarkable the protagonist herself is. She is definitely underrated in my opinion.

MY SHOT – A CHARACTER THAT GOES AFTER WHAT THEY WANT AND DOESN’T LET ANYTHING STOP THEM

You know I’m just like my country, I’m young, scrappy and hungry and I’m not throwing away my shot!

My obvious choice is Sadie from Sadie by Courtney Summers. After her little sister is murdered, Sadie has one goal: find the killer and kill him. She doesn’t let anybody get in her way or stop her. With very little resources, she travels across her country searching for the man who took her sister’s life.

YOU’LL BE BACK – A SASSY VILLAIN

Da da da dat da dat da da da da ya da…

I’m going with one of my favourite book villains: Lord Loss from The Demonata series by Darren Shan. He is a sassy demon from hell that feeds off the misery of others. He is also a huge fan of playing chess and tormenting souls. But be warned, he’ll cut you down to size with his razor-sharp tongue.

NON-STOP – A SERIES YOU MARATHONED

Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? Why do you assume you’re the smartest in the room? Soon that attitude may be your doom.

I devoured The Valentine Trilogy by Jodi McAlister. They were in my The Top 10 Best & Worst Books Of 2019! Click the link to find out why I loved that series so much.

SATISFIED – FAVOURITE BOOK WITH MULTIPLE POV’S (POINTS OF VIEW)

A toast to the groom!(To the groom! To the groom! To the groom!)
To the bride! (To the bride! To the bride! To the bride!)

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo! This duology follows a rag-tag team of bandits who are about to pull off the biggest heist in history. I loved reading from Kaz, Nina, Jasper, Inej and Matthias’s perspectives.

WHO LIVES, WHO DIES, WHO TELLS YOUR STORY – A BOOK/SERIES THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED THROUGHOUT HISTORY

And when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story?

I’m just going to give in and say it: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter will live forever. No doubt about that!

HELPLESS – A RELATIONSHIP YOU WERE ROOTING FOR FROM THE START

Look into your eyes, and the sky’s the limit. I’m helpless! Helpless!
Down for the count, and I’m drownin’in ’em.

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman from The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. From the very beginning, you can just feel the sexual tension. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for them to get together. Such a great book and I cannot wait for the film adaptation!

TEN DUEL COMMANDMENTS – FAVOURITE FIGHT SCENE

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. It’s the Ten Duel Commandments.

I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it, but the final fight scene in Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff is epic. It was so well-written!

SAY NO TO THIS – A GUILTY PLEASURE READ

That’s when I began to pray. Lord, show me how to say no to this. I don’t know how to say no to this.

I’ll go with the obvious and say Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. I had to see what all the fuss was about and despite the writing, I still enjoyed the smut. Guilty!

WHAT COMES NEXT – A SERIES YOU WISH HAD MORE BOOKS

What comes next? You’ve been freed. Do you know how hard it is to lead?

The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I want so many more books set in this world. It is definitely my favourite YA sci-fi series.

RIGHT HAND MAN – FAVOURITE BROTP (BROMANCE)

We will fight for this land. But there’s only one man. Who can give us a command so we can – rise up.

Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare. Their relationship is so pure and sweet. I love the bond they share and how they respectfully navigated having feelings for the same girl. It is the only bookish love triangle I can stand.

WHAT’D I MISS – A BOOK OR SERIES YOU WERE LATE TO READING

So what’d I miss? What’d I miss? Virginia, my home sweet home, I wanna give you a kiss. I’ve been in Paris meeting lots of different ladies. I guess I basically missed the late eighties. I traveled the wide, wide world and came back to this.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston. People have been raving about this one for years. Well, since 2017 when it came out. It was my first read of 2020 and I really enjoyed it. I totally get the hype now!

STAY ALIVE – A CHARACTER YOU WISH WAS STILL ALIVE

Stay alive ’til this horror show is past. We’re gonna fly a lot of flags half-mast.

This is a spoiler for IT by Stephen King, which is my favourite book, so be warned before reading ahead…

I really wish Eddie hadn’t been killed by Pennywise. He was my favourite member of The Loser’s Club and when I read his death scene, I actually cried. Even though he’s a fictional character, I mourned him!

BURN – THE MOST HEARTBREAKING END TO A RELATIONSHIP

I’m re-reading the letters you wrote to me. I’m searching and scanning for answers in every line. For some kind of sign, and when you were mine, the world seemed to burn. Burn.

It’s really hard not to give away what happens because the book title says it all but They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera will punch you in the gut. Two boys meet, fall in love and die in a single day.

THE REYNOLDS PAMPHLET – A BOOK WITH A TWIST YOU DIDN’T SEE COMING

The Reynolds Pamphlet. Have you read this? Alexander Hamilton had a torrid affair and he wrote it down right there.

Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky was one of the best books I read in 2019. It had a twist that made me go: WHATTTTTTTTT?!!!!! So satisfying. Such an incredible horror novel.

This is probably the longest book tag I’ve ever written so if you made it this far, thank you for reading! Comment below what your favourite Hamilton song is. Also, if you do this tag, please let me know so I can read your responses.

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. OMG I love the Hamilton Book Tag! Yes I fully agree with you Harry Potter will be remembered for ages! And Jem and Will are EVERYTHING! And Six Of Crows is really great, though I have to say that my favorite book/series with multiple POV is An Ember in the Ashes from Sabaa Tahir. Now I really need to read Sadie,Illuminae and so many other books you recommended! Anyway, I hope you’re having an amazing day

      1. I really liked An Ember in the Ashes, though I have to say that I didn’t enjoy the second installment as much as the first one and I didn’t read the third one yet. However I really think it’s a great series!
