Hi all!
Happy March/Autumn! I’m now going back to posting once a week on Monday’s, but if I have a book or product to review, I will post those on a Thursday. Today I will be sharing my wrap-up for the Fortune Teller Readathon, which ran for the entire month of February. You can check out my TBR here. I’m thrilled to report that not only did I read the books I had originally intended, but also a few more! I completed all of Path 2 and 4/5 challenges from Path 3! I had so much fun partaking in this readathon. Without further ado, let’s get into my thoughts!
PATH 2
‘THE NEW FRIEND’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL BE YOUR NEW FAVOURITE!
This book definitely became a new favourite for me. Stay tuned, because I am confident it will hit my Top 10 Books of 2020 list! Eleanor Oliphant completely stole my heart! This novel is both laugh-out-loud funny and cry into the pages sad. The character development is one of the best I’ve ever witnessed. The Eleanor we get at the beginning is completely different by the end. I love that the romance was minimal and did not overpower the main plot. There is a big theme of overcoming your trauma in this story, which I can currently relate to. I’m so excited for the film to come out!
I gave this 5/5 stars.
‘WRITTEN IN THE STARS’ – READ A 4 OR 5 STAR PREDICTED BOOK!
Unfortunately this book did not hit a 4 or 5 star for me! It had such promise, but in my opinion, it operated like a roller-coaster. Some parts were really high and exciting and others were low and not that interesting. This book is supposed to be about a secret society, but there was such a big emphasis on Google and modern technology that it took the adventurous spirit away. It was just okay. I enjoyed the ending and the premise but I didn’t care for the characters or execution.
I gave this 3/5 stars.
‘THE HOPELESS ROMANTIC’ – READ A LOVE STORY!
I’m a huge fan of Sandhya Menon’s books and this one was no exception! I don’t understand why other reviewers see Twinkle as self-centered. She was certainly flawed, but she was also a teenage girl fighting for her dreams. I could relate to her on so many levels and appreciated her character development. The romance was so sweet and I always enjoy books that focus on friendships. Also big points for some of the feminist messages within the story!
I gave this 5/5 stars.
‘THE DARK ONE’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK WILL HAVE A GREAT VILLAIN!
WOW! This book reminded me how much I love dystopian fiction. It has been a hot minute since I dived into this genre but it didn’t take long for me to fall again. The concept was so unique and well executed (pun totally intended). I’m so excited to read the next two books in this trilogy. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire way through and shocked multiple times by the twists I didn’t see coming. Also I was correct in predicting that this book would have a great villain. Read it and see!
I gave this 5/5 stars.
‘THE OUTCAST’ – READ A BOOK YOU THINK YOU’LL LOVE BUT OTHERS HATE!
This book has very mixed reviews but I really liked it. The subject matter is extremely dark and traumatic so it clearly won’t gel with everybody. What I appreciated was the juxtaposition of Adam and Julian and how they brought meaning to each other’s lives. The writing was raw, so expect to feel uncomfortable. No matter the ending, Julian will never be the same and that is real life…
I gave this 4/5 stars.
PATH 3
‘THE MAGICIAN’ – READ A BOOK FROM AN AUTHOR YOU LOVE!

Did I mention I love Sandhya Menon? I want to read all of her books! This was a cute little short story (only available as an e-novella) following Dimple and Rishi and how they feel about the prospect of marriage someday. Not a whole lot happened but it was still adorable!
I gave this 4/5 stars.
‘DIFFERENCES ASIDE’ – READ A BOOK WITH A DIVERSE CAST OF CHARACTERS!
Nothing says diverse like an African inspired fantasy novel! I wasn’t as disappointed in this sequel as a lot of other readers. I felt the action was consistent and fast paced. My only issue was with the amount of bickering between Zelie and Amari. In the first book they would’ve died for each other and in this one, they are so hostile – especially Zelie. It was such a shame. Overall though I enjoyed it and am excited for the final book!
I gave this 4/5 stars.
‘THE NEW ADDITION’ – READ A BRAND NEW RELEASE!
I was sent an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley. I’m not going to go too much into my thoughts as I wrote a full spoiler-free review of this new release (publication date: August 2020) here. I also interviewed the author which you can check out here. I truly loved this story. It was right up my alley! The language was so poetic and beautiful but still had the ability to unsettle the reader. I was so invested in the characters and plot. The author did an incredible job creating a setting that felt so vivid and creepy in my mind. The ending was perfection! Huge fan of this book!
I gave this 5/5 stars.
‘THE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS’ – READ A BOOK WITH YOUR NEW OTP!
I blew through this in one sitting; crying my eyes out because Nick and Charlie’s love is so pure and this series makes my heart want to explode with happiness! I think I enjoyed this one even more than Volume 1. I can’t wait for Volume 3 to become available at my local library! I don’t know what to else to say. Please read this graphic novel series if you haven’t already!
I gave this 5/5 stars.
Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them? Did you partake? How did you go? Thanks for reading!
Peace & Love xoxo
