Hi all!
Welcome to my TBR for The Bookemon Readathon – hosted by Tome Infinity on BookTube. It will take place for the entire month of May. This is the third time this particular readathon has taken place, but it is my first time participating. I LOVE Pokémon, so I couldn’t wait to be a part of this interactive, fun-themed challenge. It is quite intensive, therefore I will do my best to explain the rules in the most basic way possible before moving onto my TBR. If you participated before, you already know the drill. Without further ado, let’s get into how it all works!
HOW IT WORKS
Team Rocket are at it again and it’s up to the members of this readathon to take them down! Armed with 1,000,000 health points (HP), Team Rocket can only be defeated by combat points (CP) that are accrued by completing challenges; both as teams and individuals. Before you begin, you must join one of the following three teams:
BLUE TEAM (MYSTIC)
RED TEAM (VALOR)
YELLOW TEAM (INSTINCT)
Once you’ve picked your team, click here to complete the sign-up sheet.
Now you need to pick a Bookemon or Book Buddy. You can pick any GEN-1 Pokémon (except a legendary). Once you’ve got your team and Bookemon (you only get one), click here to assess the challenges. I will use myself as an example.
MY TEAM + BOOKEMON
I am in team Mystic and my Bookemon is the adorable Vileplume!

As this readathon involves working in a team, you need to record all of your progress in the allocated sheet (click here) as you go. The CP you earn will be tracked via this spreadsheet and calculated at the end to see which team earned the most points. The goal is to take down the nefarious Team Rocket.
MY TBR/CHALLENGES
Let’s start with the Bookemon solo challenge/s. As I have picked Vileplume, I need to complete the GRASS and POISON challenges. Make sure you learn your Bookemon’s type, as it may have dual abilities like my own. All of the Bookemon and team challenges are found in the link above.
GRASS CHALLENGE – EVERY SINGLE TIME A BOOK MAKES YOU LAUGH OUT LOUD, ADD 100 CP (BE HONEST!)
The GRASS challenge applies to every single book that I read in May.
POISON CHALLENGE – READING OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE GAINS YOU 500 CP
The POISON challenge applies to any book listed below that I feel is outside of my comfort zone/not a genre I normally gravitate towards.
Now let’s move onto the BLUE TEAM (MYSTIC) challenges:
You can complete these 6 challenges as many times as you like. One book can be used to complete multiple challenges (provided it meets the prompts) and if you decide to complete a challenge from another team, you earn half the CP.
* For every page you read, you earn a CP. So if a book is 500 pages, you earn 500 CP.
1.) BLUE TEAM CHALLENGE (WORTH 10 CP) – READ A BOOK FEATURING THE COLOUR BLUE, EITHER IN TITLE OR COVER IMAGE.
One Of Us Is Next by Karen McManus
My copy has the above blue cover – therefore it meets this prompt. I loved One of Us is Lying, so I’m excited to read this sequel!
Welcome back to Bayview High . . .
It’s been a year since the events of One Of Us Is Lying.
But nothing has settled for the residents of Bayview. Not now someone has started playing a sinister game of Truth or Dare.
Choose truth? You must reveal your darkest secret.
Choose dare? Well, that could be even more dangerous. Even deadly.
When the game takes an even darker turn, suddenly no one at Bayview High knows who to trust.
But they need to find out who is behind the game, before it’s too late.
2.) LOGICAL CHALLENGE (WORTH 50 CP) – FOLLOW YOUR HEAD AND READ A BOOK YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD GET TO.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
This book is my birthday present from my husband, so I am definitely going to be reading it for this prompt.
This chilling story focuses on a young family that moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane, where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside…
3.) GYM TRAINING CHALLENGE (WORTH 100 CP) – READ A BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY OR YOUR OWN COLLECTION.
The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson
This is Liz Lawson’s debut novel and unfortunately due to the pandemic, she was unable to tour, so I’m supporting her by picking this one up.
May is a survivor. But she doesn’t feel like one. She feels angry. And lost. And alone. Eleven months after the school shooting that killed her twin brother, May still doesn’t know why she was the only one to walk out of the band room that day. No one gets what she went through–no one saw and heard what she did. No one can possibly understand how it feels to be her. Zach lost his old life when his mother decided to defend the shooter. His girlfriend dumped him, his friends bailed, and now he spends his time hanging out with his little sister…and the one faithful friend who stuck around. His best friend is needy and demanding, but he won’t let Zach disappear into himself. Which is how Zach ends up at band practice that night. The same night May goes with her best friend to audition for a new band. Which is how May meets Zach. And how Zach meets May. And how both might figure out that surviving could be an option after all.
4.) BLANCHE’S MISSION CHALLENGE (WORTH 250 CP) – READ A BOOK THAT IS SET IN ANOTHER WORLD, NON-EARTH RELATED.
Archibald Lox and the Bridge Between Worlds by Darren Shan
This book is situated in an alternate universe called the Merge, so it meets the above prompt. Also, Darren Shan is one of my favourite authors and he recently released this book for free on Kindle! I’m so excited to dive into another one of his series.
There is a universe beyond our own, known as the Merge.
A young locksmith called Archibald Lox is about to cross worlds and explore it.
As he learns about these lands of wonders, he will have to face cold-blooded killers, rivers of blood, hell jackals and more…
5.) MYSTIC GROUP BOOK CHALLENGE (WORTH 500 CP) – READ ‘THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY’ BY ALIX E HARROW OR ANY HISTORICAL FANTASY.
The Diviners by Libba Bray
I read The Ten Thousand Doors of January in 2019 and hated it. I didn’t want to re-read it, so I’ve decided to pick a historical fantasy novel I have had on my TBR for years!
Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City—and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult.
Evie worries he’ll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer.
As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho hides a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened.
6.) ARTICUNO CHALLENGE (WORTH 1,000 CP) – READ A BOOK BY A MIDDLE EASTERN AUTHOR OR ABOUT MIDDLE EASTERN CULTURE/MYTHOLOGY
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
I love Tahereh Mafi (she’s a Middle-Eastern author) and this is her most famous series. It was a Kindle Monthly Deal in April, so I took that as a sign!
One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill.
No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon.
Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had.
I hope this readathon excites you and more importantly, makes sense? I know it may seem a bit confusing so if you have any questions, you can ask me or the original creator. Are you participating? Let me know your TBR’s! Thanks for reading!
Peace & Love xoxo
