Hi all!
Today I am going to be sharing my 5 most anticipated horror movie releases for 2022! Some are already confirmed, some are rumoured and the rest is just wishful thinking. Also, this is my last post of 2021. Thank you for another wonderful year. It’s been a lot of fun and there is plenty in store ahead. Without further ado, here is my list!
1.) Scream 5
Happy days are here because Scream 5 is not only a definite movie release for 2022, it’s coming out next month. You best believe I am going to see it. Also, I will be ranking the entire franchise at some point. Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. The trailer looks so epic. I am beyond excited that a lot of the original cast have revived their former roles. We have Neve Campbell back as Sidney Prescott, alongside David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers. However, it is the only film in the series not to be directed by Wes Craven. I’m hoping this major change does not hinder the relaunch. Time will tell.
2.) Nope
Nope is also a definite film release, scheduled for July 2022. It is written, produced and directed by Jordan Peele, one of my favourite horror movie directors. You can read more about that here. A teaser poster was released earlier this year, featuring an ominous looking storm cloud. Aside from that one visual, nothing else has been revealed. I am getting extraterrestrial vibes but it might be related to extreme weather. All I know is, Steven Yuen (Glenn from The Walking Dead) is part of the cast. Enough said!
3.) Insidious: The Dark Realm
If you know me, you know I love the Insidious franchise. You can check out my ranking of the series here. Scheduled for sometime in 2022, we can expect the release of Insidious: The Dark Realm, which will take place ten years after the events of Insidious: Chapter 2. Patrick Wilson (who plays Josh Lambert) is not only reprising his former role, he is also directing the film. The story has been written by our beloved Leigh Whannell and James Wan is a producer, alongside Jason Blum and Oren Peli, the creator of Paranormal Activity. Words cannot express the excitement I feel. The absolute dream team are coming together to work on one of my favourite horror sagas.
4.) The Crooked Man
I know some people are tired of the Conjuring universe, but I’m not one of them. Keep it going I say! You can check out my ranking of the franchise here. Purely a rumour at this stage, The Crooked Man is being considered as a film, that may hit cinemas next year. It will feature the character of the same name from The Conjuring 2. James Wan has said that the intent of the movie is to develop a “dark fairy-tale” sub-genre of horror films. I have a feeling this spin-off won’t be released until 2023, but I hope we get it sooner.
5.) Saw X
This is the wishful thinking section of the post. Earlier this year, Spiral was released as a spin-off to the Saw franchise. I sound like a broken record at this point, but you can check out my ranking of the series here. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending left it wide open for a sequel. As Spiral was the ninth film in the saga, I am hoping we get a tenth in 2022. However, former director Darren Lynn Bousman, has commented saying that we may even get a follow up to Jigsaw, the eighth film. Furthermore, the writer of Spiral: Josh Stolberg, recently tweeted that he’s currently working on the script for the next installment and that fans of John Kramer will be very happy. That makes me beyond excited. I don’t care what we get, just give us more from this world. I can never get enough!
What did you think of my list? Did you agree? Let me know what horror movies releases you’re excited to see in 2022. Thanks for reading! I hope you have a safe and happy new year!
Peace & Love xoxo
