Black Resilience Booksta Challenge #17 – Read & Review A Self Empowerment/Development Book By A Black Author

Hi all!

Today I am back for Day #17 of the Black Resilience Booksta Challenge. I explained all the rules in my first post here. I’m hoping this will inspire other readers to read, review and amplify more black voices. Feel free to join me! You can refer to the template below. You can also check out the dedicated category under the Books & Reading menu of this blog for all the posts that came before this one.

I chose What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey for Day #17 because it is a self-empowerment story from the beloved icon of television herself. Oprah shares her wisdom gained over the years, to help those reading find joy, resilience, connection, gratitude and power in their own lives.

There is something for everyone in this book. I guarantee, you will relate to at least one chapter. The life lessons may seem simple and obvious but they serve as helpful reminders. I certainly got a lot out of reading her novel. After a particularly hard year, it was gratifying to know that her struggles shaped her into the successful person she is today and mine will too. My only negative critique is that Oprah spends a lot of time lamenting about her weight. She mentions that weight gain means you don’t hold yourself in high regard. As this was published in 2014, I’m guessing she feels differently now with the rise of body positivity but it was a bit uncomfortable to read.

If you are interested in getting a copy, you can order it here.

Thank you so much for reading, I will see you next time for Day #18.

Peace & Love xoxo
