Hi all!
Today I am back with a new round of The Breath of the Wild Readathon created by Caz from Little Book Owl and Red from Little Red Reader.
If you’re a huge Zelda fan like me, you are going to love this series of readathons based on the award-winning game: The Breath of the Wild. Follow the botwathon page for more details and announcements. As you can see by the title, we are now embarking on the second month-long, main quest to take down the Divine Beast: Vah Rudania. This readathon is running from October 1st – October 31st. Without further ado, here are the rules, challenges and my TBR!
THE RULES
Like the last main quest, you need to pick a team from those listed below. Each team grants a unique perk that you may use only once during the round to aid your readathon. Your options are:
Team Mipha: One book on your TBR can be used to complete two challenges.
Team Daruk: One partially completed book can count towards a challenge.
Team Revali: Instead of drawing a Blood Moon Card, read any book of your choice.
Team Urbosa: You can swap out one challenge from your path with one from another team (any prompt except Vah Rudania).
I’m once again going with Team Mipha because the perk and challenges suit my TBR best. Once you’ve picked yours, refer to the map below and website to source your reading prompts. Unless you’re on Team Revali, you’ll have to pick up a Blood Moon Card with a random prompt to complete. There are also three optional challenges you can take. Warriors are to complete the challenges in order of their team’s path, starting at East Reservoir Lake and ending at the Divine Beast: Vah Rudania. If you obtained the glider in the mini-round, you can complete the reading challenges in any order you wish. If you didn’t, you need to complete the challenges in path order.
THE CHALLENGES – TEAM MIPHA
1.) East Reservoir Lake – Read a book with blue on the cover
For this prompt, I’m going to read The Girl in White by Lindsay Currie. The cover has a completely blue background and is a new release novel that NetGalley approved me to read.
2.) Blood Moon Card – Use the random card generator to select a reading prompt.
I picked up Rusty Sword: Read a book published more than 10 years ago. I’m finally going to read Carrie by Stephen King. It was released in 1974 and is quite short. Perfect for spooky season.
3.) East Akkala Stable – Select a book from your TBR at random.
For this prompt, I will read The Fear Zone by K.R. Alexander. It has been sitting on my TBR cart, just waiting to be picked up!
4.) Akkala Ancient Tech Lab – Read a dark academia novel.
I’m going to use my Team Mipha perk here and re-select Carrie by Stephen King. It is a dark novel set in a high school, so it counts.
5.) Divine Beast: Vah Rudania – ‘FIRE’ buzzword – read a book with fire (or any related word) in the title.
In the YouTube video (linked below) Caz states that this prompt will also work if the cover is fiery/has fire on it. For this reason, I’m going with Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives. It has reds, oranges and yellows on the cover, giving off a fiery feel. It is also the You’ll Read Too Bookclub pick for the month of October.
BONUS CHALLENGES
I may or may not complete these bonus challenges. They are optional. You’ll find out if I did in my wrap-up.
1.) Gut Check Rock – Read an intimidating book.
This bonus challenge can be doubled up, if you wish. If you are on Team Mipha, this means you’ll be able to double up on challenges twice!
2.) Skull Lake – Participate in at least 1 Fang & Bone Challenge.
Fang & Bone challenges are community prompts that will be announced without warning. They will be creative or fun things that you can reply to, share in the Discord or post on your social channels. Follow the BotWathon Twitter or join the Discord to be alerted when a challenge drops.
3.) Lomei Labyrinth Island – Read a mysterious or puzzling book.
This bonus challenge can be doubled up, if you wish. If you are on Team Mipha, this means you’ll be able to double up on challenges twice!
There are a few extra rules and guidelines that were discussed in the YouTube video, which you can check out here.
Let me know if you’re participating. I would love to see your TBR! Thanks for reading!
Peace & Love xoxo
