Hi all!
Today I am reviewing the new-release, horror film: Scream 6. It hit cinemas in Australia this month, allowing me the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen. If you wish to check out my ranking of the entire franchise, please click here. I’m going to make this spoiler-free, so don’t worry about me spilling the beans. Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City. However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage. Without further ado, here are my honest thoughts!
WHAT WORKED:
Scream 6 will please most viewers with its ability to remain meta, self-aware and violently fun. Fans of the franchise will be thrilled to see the return of some familiar faces and delight at the plethora of throwbacks, referencing the films that came before. I personally loved seeing Ghostface roaming the streets of New York City. It’s the first time we get to see the infamous villain in a metropolitan setting. The opening scene had me on the edge of my seat, but it was the subway ride that stole the show. It had the perfect amount of tension-building. The gore was on point and the pacing just right. I was initially skeptical about a sequel being released only a year later but it worked. With new characters, re-imagined slasher-movie rules and plenty of stabs along the way, you’ve got all the makings of an excellent Scream movie.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK:
My biggest criticism is that this instalment doesn’t really move the story along. There was no cliff-hanger ending or glimpse into what is coming next. The last film shook things up far more than this one did. I also guessed the killer pretty quickly but that didn’t make the experience less enjoyable. In my overall ranking, I would place it second last.
OVERALL STAR RATING:
I gave this 4.5/5 stars. The Scream franchise never lets me down!
Thank you so much for reading! Let me know if you’ve watched this film. Did you like it?
Peace & Love xoxo
