The Rip It Or Ship It Tag!

Hi all!

Today I am going to do a book tag I’ve wanted try for the longest time! It is The Rip it or Ship it tag. I don’t know who created this, but it’s been around for years on Booktube and book blogs. How it works is, you pick an even number of characters from books (I picked 30), then you draw them out of a hat and decide whether you think they would make a good couple/friendship (SHIP) or a terrible pairing (RIP). I’ve tried to be diverse in my character choices and made sure they’re pretty well known to readers. I even threw in a couple of silly ones! I hope you enjoy!

ROUND #1

Would you believe I pulled Bella Swan and Edward Cullen from Twilight on my first pick? I nearly put them back and drew again, but then I thought about it… Are Bella and Edward actually that good together? I have always thought they had quite an unhealthy obsession with one another and was Team Jacob until I read the last book and learnt about his creepy imprinting on Bella’s daughter. I’m curious to know your thoughts down below on this topic. Edward is quite hostile towards Bella in the beginning and leaves her in the second book, rendering her suicidal. When they finally get back together, they can’t be apart for a second. I’m not a fan.

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #2

I was pretty happy when I pulled out these two names. Yes Dumbledore is gay and so much older than Evelyn Hugo, but if you read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, you may remember she married her best friend, who was also a homosexual. They had the most fulfilling, loving and caring relationship. I could see Evelyn having that same companionship with Dumbledore. He would provide so much emotional support for her and she would be a steady hand during his darker moments. I’m definitely all for this!

FINAL VERDICT: SHIP!

ROUND #3

Can you imagine these two in the same room? The manipulative, heartless Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones and the cutthroat, ruthless killer Mia Corvere from Nevernight? They would kill one another within seconds of meeting. Now you may think that these two could make great allies but sorry, Cersei is too much of an evil bitch. At least Mia has morals despite being a trained assassin! One could not survive whilst the other lived…

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #4

I can see these two being quite good friends! Simon from Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda has such a sunny disposition which would be so good for Harry who has suffered from a lot of tragedy. Harry is used to the witty Ron Weasley, so why not add one more funny lad to the friendship group? Also, Simon is so obviously a Hufflepuff!

FINAL VERDICT: SHIP!

ROUND #5

Quentin Jacobson from Paper Towns and Hazel Grace Lancaster from The Fault in our Stars are both lovely and kind protagonists. But does that mean they would work well? Quentin tends to go for the emotionally unattainable and Hazel shies away from relationships full stop (until Augustus Waters comes along). I don’t think these two would work out purely because they’re from two different worlds. I just don’t see it happening.

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #6

Technically, these two are around the same age. Hermione Granger was nearly 12 when Harry Potter was first published and Percy Jackson was 12 in The Lightning Thief. I could see these two being great friends but I’m not sure about being a couple. Percy is a little bit too compulsive and hyperactive for the sensible and studious Hermione. I think she would get tired of never being able to keep up with him, but she would definitely be a useful asset in helping him face all of his challenges and vice-versa. I ship their friendship!

FINAL VERDICT: SHIP!

ROUND #7

Ummm no! There is no universe where these two would ever be compatible. Katniss Everdeen is our hero from The Hunger Games and Voldemort is the ultimate villain from the Harry Potter series. They would be in a battle to the death from the get go! Katniss would be firing arrows so fast at Voldy, he wouldn’t get a chance to Avada Kedavra her!

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #8

Magnus Bane is a smooth-talking, gay warlock from The Mortal Instruments series and Cath is an introverted writer from the critically acclaimed Fangirl. They would obviously not hit it off romantically…but what about as friends? Magnus is so flamboyant and extra, but his boyfriend Alec is a shy, quiet warrior so he knows how to mesh well with the reserved types. I think they would bounce lots of ideas off one another and Magnus would work at bringing Cath out of her shell. Yeah, I’m a fan!

FINAL VERDICT: SHIP!

ROUND #9

Haha oh no, no no no no no. The sweet, loyal and kind Inej from Six of Crows would not be able to stand the pompous and reckless Lestat from The Vampire Chronicles. Besides, he would never stick around long enough for either of them to form any sort of relationship AND he’s immortal! She will die long before he gets his head out of the clouds and introduces himself. I’m not shipping this at all.

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #10

Clary from The Mortal Instruments series is way too pure for the cold and calculating Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows. I can’t see this couple ever working out. He may respect Clary and her Shadowhunter skills over time but she would never be satisfied with a man that does not like physical affection. It’s a no from me!

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #11

It’s another no from me. Daisy Jones from Daisy Jones and the Six is a little bit too turbulent and unstable for the dashing and meticulous Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices series. He wouldn’t have the patience to put up with her recklessness and drug abuse. He would try to help her once and then just give up. Plus I cannot see them being physically attracted to one another. Will is not rock n roll enough for the beautiful Daisy.

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #12

There’s no way in hell that Wade Watts from Ready Player One would put up with the likes of the horrible Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter series. He already feels so oppressed in a dystopian world set to destroy him. Dolores would be constantly on his case about spending all his time in the OASIS and issue decrees that he give all of his hard earned coins to her. This is not a match!

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

ROUND #13

I am shipping this all the way! Starr Carter from The Hate U Give and Zelie from Children of Blood and Bone are both sassy, brave girls with a strong love for their families. They would be such an amazing pair either romantically or just as friends. They also share the same skin colour and understanding of oppression from those that deem them socially inferior. Their bond would be out of this world!

FINAL VERDICT: SHIP!

ROUND #14

I cannot believe I picked the only two non-human characters for this round. Pennywise is a demonic entity from the story IT and AIDAN is an artificial intelligence featured in the Illuminae Files. This pairing makes me laugh. AIDAN would irritate Pennywise with his dry, mono-tonal anecdotes, causing the evil clown to try and rip the machine apart with its teeth. It wouldn’t go down well, but they are so uniquely different and strange that I almost wish I could see them exist in the same universe.

FINAL VERDICT: RIP! (QUITE LITERALLY!)

ROUND #15

And finally, we have Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series and Peeta Mellark from the Hunger Games trilogy. It’s no surprise that this pairing would not work out. Peeta is just simply too nice for Snape. They would detest being around each other. In this case, opposites does not attract!

FINAL VERDICT: RIP!

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know all of your thoughts down below. Which pairings did you like? Who would you rip and ship? Did you agree or disagree with my final verdicts and why? This was so much fun to do so if you’re interested, have a go and link me your answers so I can read them. Thanks so much for reading!

Peace & Love xoxo

  1. You can certainly see your skills in the work you write.
The arena hopes for more passionate writers such as
you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe.
    Always follow your heart.

  2. I’ve never heard of this tag before but it sounds so fun! Haha that you drew Bella and Edward on the first go XD Usually I think personalities work better if two people have some similarities and are not on two different sides like good and evil, which you pointed out. Miss you my friend. Hope you are well xxx
