Quicksand – Shudder Movie Review!

Hi all!

Today I am going to be reviewing a relatively new horror movie titled: Quicksand. As mentioned previously, I really want to make better use of my Shudder subscription, so I have decided to watch/review one film per month from the aforementioned spooky streaming service. The story follows a couple on the verge of divorce, who travel to South America for business. On their day off, they decide to go for a hike, only to wind up in a pit of quicksand. Together, they must brave the elements – and the creatures that lurk within the forest – to stay alive. Without further ado, let’s get into my honest thoughts!

WHAT WORKED:

I really liked the concept of this movie. Setting it in the jungle of South America was clever. I don’t think I’ve watched a film cover the topic of quicksand before. It’s honestly quite terrifying. I remember seeing it in the original Jumanji and feeling unsettled. It would be so heavy and claustrophobic. Adding the element of a marriage on rocks, allowed both leads to work together, despite the initial tension. Their acting and chemistry was quite believable. I also liked the addition of certain creatures. I won’t spoil it but the poster kind of gives it away!

WHAT DIDN’T WORK:

This was a very predictable film. I knew exactly how it would end within the first thirty minutes. It also had a lot of ‘convenient’ moments to help push the plot along. Sometimes you can overlook these things, but it was very noticeable on first watch. I would go into it expecting more of a drama thriller than a bonafide horror. Other than that, it was a solid movie.

OVERALL STAR RATING:

I gave it 3/5 stars. It’s worth a watch if you’ve got some time to spare.

Thank you so much for reading! Have you seen Quicksand? What did you think of it? I’ll be back to review another Shudder feature next month!

Peace & Love xoxo
