The Ultimate Reading Challenge #13 – Make A Meal Found In A Book!

Hi all!

Welcome back to The Ultimate Reading Challenge! I outlined in 2022 how the new series will work here, so check that out before progressing further. For challenge #13, I read One Of Us Is Back by Karen McManus, plus created a meal mentioned in the book. Today I am going to share my thoughts on the story, the aforementioned recipe and my prize for completing the prompt. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Plot: ‘One Of Us Is Back’ by Karen McManus:

Ever since Simon died in detention, life hasn’t been easy for the Bayview Crew. First, the Bayview Four had to prove they weren’t killers. Then, a new generation had to outwit a vengeful copycat. Now, it’s beginning again.

At first the mysterious billboard seems like a bad joke: ‘Time for a new game, Bayview.’ But when a member of the crew disappears, it’s clear this ‘game’ just got serious – and no one understands the rules. Everyone’s a target. And now that someone unexpected has returned to Bayview, things are starting to get deadly.

Review: ‘One Of Us Is Back’ by Karen McManus:

Unfortunately, this was my least favourite book in the Bayview Four trilogy. The blurb promised a brand-new game that never truly took off. It wasn’t fun or exciting like the other two. Furthermore, it was quite confusing, as it combined characters from the two previous novels. It was difficult to keep up with who was who. Having said that, the ending made me emotional. I like how everything was wrapped up.

Recipe – Fruit Salad w Mint and Maple Syrup:

In the book, Bronwyn Rojas prepares a fruit salad topped with mint and maple syrup. It sounded like the perfect summer treat, so I decided to try it for myself. I added chopped up apple, strawberries and blueberries. The hint of sweetness really elevated the dish. It’s definitely a combination I would try again.

Prize For Completing The Challenge:

As you can see below, my prize for completing the prompt was a rubber stamp in the design of reading glasses. I don’t have any ink to go with it but it’s cute and something I would use on my journals/scrapbooking.

Thank you so much for reading! I will see you next month for a new bookish challenge!

Peace & Love xoxo
